So You’ve Built a Talent Pipeline: What do You Actually Put into It?

Here at PeopleFluent, we talk about talent pipelines a lot. We know how hard it is for companies to find the perfect candidate – after all, U.S. employers are taking 25 working days on average to fill vacant positions, a 13-year high, according to the Wall Street Journal. One reason for that lag time is the lack of highly-qualified candidates in the market. That’s why we advocate that organizations create a proactive recruiting strategy, with constant sourcing and evaluation of qualified individuals, creating a pipeline of talent that your organization can pull from to strategically fill job vacancies.

So you’ve decided to build a talent pipeline; now, how do you actually use it? Where do you find the candidates to put into that pipeline?

Luckily, the process of filling your talent pipeline doesn’t have to be time-consuming or incomprehensibly complex. In fact, try these three quick tips to pump up the power for your existing talent pipeline:

  1. Optimize your career site for mobile devices. Your candidates are everywhere – reach them with a beautiful, effective career site, no matter which device they use to view it. 
  2. Shorten up that online application. If it takes 45 minutes to complete, then it’s 40 minutes too long. Collect just enough information you need to screen your candidate and correctly place them in an applicant pool.
  3. Automate external succession slating. Your company most likely does succession slating internally; use your ATS to automatically add initial qualified applicants to your job workflows for further data collection and screening.
