Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for Talent Management Suites: Why it Matters

This past week, leading industry research firm Gartner released its second annual Critical Capabilities for Talent Management Suites report, which defines what specific functionalities talent management solutions should have to address the needs of the market. Gartner defines critical capabilities as “the major modules of the talent management suite coupled with reporting and analytics, as well as overall customer satisfaction with the products and vendor-client relationship.” Gartner’s research report assessed vendor capabilities in four critical talent management use cases: Attract and Retain Talent, Develop the Workforce, Pay for Performance and High-Volume Talent Management.

This report is incredibly valuable because it was created after numerous, extensive surveys and discussions with talent software buyers and users. The use cases are created with these discussions in mind, and the vendors included in the report were evaluated within the framework of those use cases. The report is a great bellwether of what challenges managers and human resources teams are facing, and how specific talent management technologies could help them solve those problems. It is meant to serve as a guiding document for customers actively looking to purchase a talent management solution, which is why we’re so excited at how well PeopleFluent performed in this year’s report.  

The report assesses vendors based upon how they perform in the four use cases, but also assign individual product scores and services scores. When you combine the product scores with the service ratings, PeopleFluent achieved the highest cumulative product / service rating on critical capabilities among all 12 talent management vendors assessed, which speaks to our complete talent management solution. 

Here’s a quick rundown of how we performed with regards to the report’s four use cases:

Attract and Retain Talent: PeopleFluent is the highest rated vendor in this category, with a score of 4.10 out of 5.

Develop the Workforce: PeopleFluent is rated above average in this category, with a score of 3.81 out of 5.

Pay for Performance: PeopleFluent is the 2nd highest rated vendor in this category, with a score of 4.08 out of 5.

High Volume Talent Management: PeopleFluent is the highest rated vendor in this category, with a score of 4.21 out of 5.

The Critical Capabilities report also evaluates and rates vendors’ individual products. Here’s how PeopleFluent scored:

Onboarding= Excellent

Performance Management = Excellent

Compensation = Excellent

Career and Succession Management = Good

Learning Management = Good
